What is [vibratome]?

A vibratome is a laboratory instrument used to prepare thin slices of tissues for microscopic examination. The instrument works by vibrating a razor blade or diamond knife back and forth at a high frequency, which allows for precise slicing of the tissue. The thickness of the slices can be adjusted, usually ranging from a few micrometers to several hundred micrometers, and the slices can be used for a variety of experiments including histology, immunohistochemistry, and in situ hybridization. Vibratomes are commonly used in neuroscience research to slice brain tissue for studies on neuronal anatomy and connectivity.
